Frequently asked questions

Which files do I need?

Just the ZIP Instagram gives you. Upload it as it is and we pull followers_1.json (plus followers_2.json and so on) and following.json out of it automatically. If Instagram split your download into several ZIP files, select them all at once. Already unzipped it? Drop the extracted folder instead.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything is processed in your browser, on your own device. Your files never leave your computer or phone, and nothing is stored once you start over or close the tab.

Why do I have to download my data instead of logging in?

Giving your password to a third-party site puts your account at risk. Instagram’s official data download contains the same follower lists and lets you check them safely, without sharing credentials with anyone.

Why don’t the numbers match my profile exactly?

Your export is a snapshot from the moment Instagram created it, so newer changes won’t show up. Deactivated accounts and accounts that changed their username can also appear differently. Download a fresh copy for the most up-to-date results.

Are pending follow requests included?

No. Instagram stores pending requests in a separate file, so only accounts you actually follow — and that actually follow you — are compared.
